IKEA processes personal identity numbers to ensure that we have accurate information about our customers. We automatically update your name and address details from SPAR (the Swedish state personal address register). We do this to ensure that the benefits and offers provided are linked to the right member.
When you order or purchase a product or service from us at IKEA, when you are a registered member of the IKEA Family or IKEA Business Network, we will use your purchase and order history and user history (e.g. how you click or search on our website) to gain an insight into and understand which products or services you are interested in and whether there are other similar products or services that we think you would also like. Based on this information, we at IKEA will be able to inform you about new additions to our range but also about timeless classics that you haven't yet discovered. We may also send you special benefits based on your/your company's interests and preferences and other similar mailings. This information is necessary for us to be able to provide you as a member with additional offers on top of what we offer to other customers.
If you do not want us to use your customer history to send you offers and other member benefits, you always have the right to unsubscribe from such mailings. If you don't want us to use your customer history at all (e.g. when developing and improving our products and services or improving technical functionality), you always have the right to cancel your IKEA Family or IKEA Business Network membership.
The customer information that we store about you is based on data that IKEA has collected about you either from you or from official registers such as SPAR to ensure correct address details or other actors that IKEA cooperates with to create the collected information about you.
IKEA only shares your personal data when this is a legal requirement or otherwise permitted by law. In some cases, we may use a data processor to help us with our marketing or to process contracts and orders. Companies that help us in these cases can be freight forwarding and logistics companies, bank and credit card companies or marketing suppliers. In such cases, we have entered into a contract with the data processor that ensures there are security measures in place to protect your data. When we share your data, it will be used for the same purposes for which we originally collected it.
IKEA minimises the transfer of personal data to a country outside the EU/EEA and where this occurs, such as in the case of system support and maintenance, this is done according to particularly stringent requirements and agreements.
We also share your personal data with certain companies that are independent data controllers, which means that they control how the information is processed, such as public authorities or companies offering independent payment solutions or general goods transport.
At IKEA, we process information about you as a customer in order to provide the best service and we keep your data for as long as the data is needed to fulfil the purposes for which the data was originally collected. The information can also be stored for as long as required under applicable law. We at IKEA have ongoing procedures to ensure that we do not store unnecessary data about you, and we minimise the retention time as much as possible.
Customer information for purchases and customer service enquiries
- With regard to your purchase, order and usage history, to the extent that we have not anonymised your data, we will delete such history 10 years after the transaction date.
- Data related to a customer service case is stored until it is closed or otherwise deleted after 8 years from the completion of the purchase transaction, if the case is linked to a purchase.
- Regarding purchase history, the information will be used for marketing of similar IKEA products and services, for a retention period of 1 year. You can always unsubscribe from such mailings from IKEA.
Information collected after consent
If you are neither a buyer nor a member of the IKEA Family or IKEA Business Network, but for example visit IKEA.se or on other occasions where it becomes relevant, IKEA will obtain consent from you before IKEA makes any registration of your personal data. IKEA keeps the information collected from you with your consent as long as it is relevant, but deletes historical information on an ongoing basis, 5 years from the time the information was collected. You can always withdraw your consent and the information will be deleted as soon as possible and at the latest within 6 months.
