Why does my sofa creak or squeak?
If your sofa creaks or squeaks, it is often because screws or legs have come loose. Use our troubleshooting guide and follow the step-by-step instructions to see what you can do and when you should contact IKEA.
Reasons why your sofa creaks or squeak
Check the screws and legs
Do the following:
- Locate where the noise is coming from—for example, from a leg or a specific part of the frame.
- Check that all parts have been assembled according to the assembly instructions.
- Tighten all the screws.
- Also tighten all the legs and make sure they are stable and securely positioned on the floor.
Important:
- Tighten all the screws a few weeks after assembly.
- After that, tighten them approximately once a year.
