Reasons why your sofa creaks or squeak
A sofa often creaks or squeaks because a part has come loose, such as screws or legs. This can happen after you have used the sofa for a while.
Check the screws and legs
Do the following:
- Locate where the noise is coming from—for example, from a leg or a specific part of the frame.
- Check that all parts have been assembled according to the assembly instructions.
- Tighten all the screws.
- Also tighten all the legs and make sure they are stable and securely positioned on the floor.
Important:
Screws can gradually become loose as you use the sofa. Therefore, you should:
- Tighten all the screws a few weeks after assembly.
- After that, tighten them approximately once a year.
When to contact IKEA
If the noise continues after you have:
- Checked the assembly.
- Tightened all the screws and legs as described above.
