How is the durability of sofa and armchair covers tested?
We test all our covers for sofas and armchairs so you can be sure that they are durable. To check the wear resistance, we test the fabric's resistance to abrasion using a machine that rubs the fabric against another fabric while applying a firm pressure. In the industry, the scale is called "Martindale".
Our sofa and armchair covers are rigorously tested at IKEA so you can feel confident that they will last over time. To assess how durable a fabric is, we use Martindale, a test method with a name derived from the machine's make. In this way, we can measure how much abrasion the material can withstand before it shows signs of wear.
