How can I improve my IKEA Kreativ scan?

Following the quick tips covered in this article will ensure that you’ll take the best possible scan of your own room.

1. Where to stand and how to prepare your room
  • Stand with your back against a wall or corner to capture as much of the room as possible. Point the camera toward the area you want to design and make sure the floor is visible. This wider perspective improves scanning quality.
2. Capture in good light
  • Open blinds and turn on lights if needed. Bright rooms deliver the best results.
3. Take a wide-angle photo
  • Aim the camera at the center of the area.
  • Follow the app’s instructions for the 5-point scan: hold your phone with both hands, keep your elbows close to your body, and rotate using your forearms. Avoid turning your whole body.
4. Accepting the preview
  • Review the image and make sure it covers the entire area and looks bright and clear. Tap “Yes, continue!” if everything looks good.
5. Correct your wide-angle image with a scan
  • The app will ask you to take an extra photo of the floor for a more realistic view. Make rough adjustments if prompted, then tap “Done”.
6. Measuring the room
  • Stand in place and sweep your phone in a slow and wide 8-figure motion, starting in the center of the area you want to design.
  • Make sure your camera captures the floors, walls, and ceilings of your room, covering a wide area in front of you.
  1. Correct your 8-figure scan (devices with LiDAR capabilities will automatically skip this step)
  • If the app asks you to correct: take a big step to the left or right and tap “Done”. You’ll see a split screen to adjust image 1 and 2—make a rough adjustment and tap “Done”. Perform another figure-eight motion if prompted.
Once the scanning process is complete, we will send you an email, as well as an app notification if this is enabled, so you can start designing your room. You can access it to design in the mobile app by going to your profile > Your IKEA > IKEA Kreativ > Saved Rooms. Or find it on our website in your dashboard.
