Get started with your bathroom design

Let’s face it, unless we’re talking new-builds, you seldom get to choose where the toilet and vanity go, and you may not have the space to install a much-wanted bathtub. But if you go through the following steps for how to design a bathroom remodel, you’ll see how much effect your possible choices can have on the result. For example, even if there’s already a shower installed, you can easily update it with a shower head, rail and mixer, to make them match the rest of your bathroom.

1. Let your washstand set the style

The vanity is a key feature in your bathroom and can set the tone for the entire space. Choose a style that fits your theme—traditional, modern, glossy, or wooden. If you have a large family or enough space, consider a double washbasin. For added convenience, select a vanity with drawers and organizers to keep items tidy and easily accessible.

Your shower, your way

A shower isn’t just a place to get clean, it’s where you get ready for the day and relax when you want to unwind. Choose the showerhead, rail, mixer, tap that meet your needs — and that match your bathroom style.

2. Consider your bathroom storage needs

More storage is always better in a bathroom. Consider adding high cabinets or wall-mounted units that match your vanity for a unified look. Open frames can utilize unused space effectively. Use organizers like baskets and containers to keep everything in its place and avoid clutter.

3. Bathroom lights and mirrors

Lamps and mirrors are crucial for bathroom design. While natural light is nice, it’s often insufficient for curtain tasks. Use ambient lighting for a warm, even glow, and add task lighting near the mirror for better visibility. Consider mirrors with built-in lights or magnification for close-up views. Smart lighting with sensors adds convenience for dark entries.

4. Time for bathroom textiles

Bathroom textiles add luxury and style. Soft towels, bathmats, and shower curtains enhance comfort and color. Choose neutral tones for a classic look or bright colors for a pop. Updating these textiles periodically is an easy and affordable way to refresh your bathroom.

5. Bathroom accessories — the finishing touch

Small bathroom accessories like soap dispensers and waste bins are key for both style and function. Choose matching sets or mix materials and colors. They’re easy to update for a quick refresh. Add a decorative touch with a plant or twig to complete your bathroom’s look.
