Our IKEA return policy

We’ve detailed everything about our generous IKEA return policy – which is the same for all customers and all channels – on this page.

At IKEA, it’s OK to change your mind. Sometimes what seemed perfect for your home, office or garden, just isn’t. Returning a product to us is convenient and hassle-free, no matter how or where it’s bought.

Things to note

Return policy

Returning unopened IKEA products

You can return any unopened IKEA product within 365 days, for a full refund. Bring your proof of purchase if you can – but if you can't find it we'll help you locate your digital receipt.

Returning opened IKEA products

We think everyone should be able to test out any product, so we take back opened products within 365 days – even assembled ones. Just show us your receipt for a full refund.

IKEA products that can’t be returned

Only dirty, stained, damaged or adapted products are excluded from returns. But if your item is still in good condition, you can sell it back to us. Learn more about how Buy Back works.

Things to note: IKEA returns, IKEA refunds and IKEA exchanges

  • When you return anything, please bring your receipt.
  • We issue refunds in the payment form used to buy the product.
  • Can’t find your receipt? We’ll refund to an IKEA refund card to use in store or online.
  • More than 365 days since you bought your product? You can still return it as part of our IKEA Buy back service.
  • If your product is damaged, you can file a claim at IKEA.
  • We offer a free IKEA spare parts service as part of our commitment to prolonging product life.

‘Love it or exchange it’ mattress exchange policy

‘Love it or exchange it’ is our IKEA 365 return policy for newly purchased mattresses. So, after you’ve slept on it a while, you can return or exchange your mattress if you find it too firm or too soft.

Simply bring your mattress and receipt to any IKEA store, and we’ll help you find a different one.

Things to note: IKEA mattress exchange

  • You can exchange your mattress or mattress pad once within 365 days.
  • The only condition is that it’s not dirty, marked or damaged.
  • New mattresses often feel a bit too firm, so wait at least a month for your body to get used to the mattress and for the mattress to get used to your body.
  • To get the best comfort you also need the right pillow, make sure you have a pillow that suits you and your new mattress.
  • Once you’ve found your perfect mattress, it’ll be covered by our 10-year IKEA mattress guarantee. Terms and conditions for our guarantee can be found in our guarantee brochures. This return policy and our guarantee do not affect your statutory rights.
  • If your mattress exchange is an upgrade, you’ll just cover the price difference between the original and the replacement.
  • If the replacement’s price is lower, we’ll credit the difference to an IKEA refund card.
  • Customers arranging a collection from the store will be provided with a mattress bag to pack and seal the used mattress, before placing the package outside for collection at an arranged time.

Custom-made work top policy

If you order a custom-made work top for your IKEA kitchen, you may cancel the order 24 hours before check and measure and receive a full refund of the fees paid.

If you do not proceed with the installation of your custom-made work top after check and measure but before fabrication begins, you will receive a refund of the fees paid minus the fees of check and measure service. No refund of the fees for the check and measure service rendered.

Once fabrication begins, you cannot be refunded for the cost of the custom-made work top or service fee unless IKEA agrees otherwise. You will incur the full cost of the production of your ordered custom-made work top and all services rendered including possible scrapping charges.
