Co-worker stories - Malou Cristobal

I am on my 7th year at the company. I applied for a job here because I am an avid fan of IKEA products. I started at the Checkout counter and moved to the Sales department after 3 years.

A typical day on the job for me starts with breakfast at the co-worker restaurant – I really enjoy that, and it is always affordable because the meals here are discounted for co-workers. Then I report to the department to perform my daily responsibilities. I keep order in the Dining section throughout the day to make sure that our products look great and our customers are having a good experience.

Perhaps the most inspiring thing for me on the job is to be able to meet people from different walks of life, interacting, guiding, and helping customers with their purchase. I like being able to serve them confidently and reliably.

Simplicity is my favourite IKEA value since I always appreciate a direct and clear approach, things which are uncomplicated and easy to understand or do. I am happy in my surroundings. Here, part-timers are not treated differently. We are encouraged to speak out with ideas and take responsibility when we see a problem.

It can be challenging to be on your feet all day, working with people. But if you are looking for a great place to work that really provides flexibility, then IKEA may be a good fit.
