Cook

The types of storage and the dimensions need to be adapted to items used, shopping routines and how often cooking takes place. Placing items close to where they are used also makes life easier. Interior fittings help keep the kitchen organised and functional.

Having waste bins under the sink makes effective use of the space and helps to avoid spills on the floor.

Open shelves puts everything within easy reach. Ensure that the material is durable enough for what it is being used for and that it is easy to clean.

Transparent containers make it easy to see the food inside, and to see how much is left or when it is time to fill up.

Think about

  • A serving trolley provides extra storage and surface space. Many kitchen trolleys are equipped with castors which make them easy to move around.
  • Pull-out wire baskets or drawers make items in deep cabinets easily accessible. Avoid placing drawer units next to a cooking unit as children might use them as steps. Alternatively mount drawer/door catches.
  • A wall-mounted rail system saves countertop space and brings things within easy reach.
  • To save energy, avoid placing a refrigerator and freezer next to the oven.
  • Ensure that doors are hinged on the correct side where they can easily be opened.
  • Interior fittings save space in cabinets and drawers making everything
