"Home idea with IKEA": A kitchen that lives in the rythm of a family

For almost two years, this family had been living with the thought that their kitchen needed a change. They love building and doing things themselves, and they always have two eager little helpers – their young sons. But the rush of everyday life kept postponing the plan. In the final episode of season 11 of "Home Idea with IKEA", the family finally gets to work – planning and creating their dream kitchen themselves, with an IKEA interior designer offering helpful advice, layout tweaks and the finishing touches once everything is nearly complete.

Before

Before the makeover, the kitchen served as a multifunctional space – it was both a dining area and a place for the children to play and store their things. The fridge covered with magnets, open shelving and mismatched furniture created a slightly busy, unfinished feel. Storage solutions were insufficient, so items tended to accumulate in plain sight. The room was bright and cosy, yet it lacked a cohesive layout and thoughtful organisation to make everyday life easier for the four-person family.

After: A bright and thoughtfully designed family kitchen

After the makeover, the kitchen and dining area have gained a bright, cohesive and well-organised character. White cabinetry, wooden worktops and thoughtful storage solutions create a sense of space and calm. Closed cupboards help conceal everyday items, while carefully chosen décor and artwork add personality. The dining area has become a warm and inviting place for shared meals, and the functional layout makes busy family life easier.

After: A thoughtfully planned cooking space

After the makeover, the kitchen has become a bright and functional workspace, where every detail has been carefully considered. The white cabinet fronts and wooden worktops create a warm, contemporary feel, while the practical L-shaped layout allows for easy movement and convenient access to everything needed. Closed cupboards help maintain a clean visual order, while open shelves and accessories add personality and a welcoming touch.

After: Everything in its place

After the makeover, special attention has been given to storage and organisation in the kitchen. Spacious drawers with internal organisers allow utensils and food supplies to be arranged neatly and clearly. Tall cabinets and a glass display unit provide space for crockery and special-occasion tableware, while maintaining a light and airy feel. Every item now has its own place, leaving the worktops clear and making everyday cooking easier and more enjoyable.

After: A dining area for spending time together

After the makeover, the dining area has become a thoughtfully designed and multifunctional space for the family to spend time together. The spacious table and comfortable chairs invite relaxed meals and conversation, while the nearby sideboard offers convenient storage for crockery and tableware. The light colour palette and coordinated décor create a harmonious atmosphere, and the flexible layout allows the space to adapt easily to both everyday dinners and special occasions.

“If you cook at home often, the kitchen needs to be especially well planned. It’s important that everything required for cooking is conveniently arranged and within easy reach. By adding drawer and shelf dividers and organisers, both large and small items become easy to see and find. This makes everyday life simpler and cooking far more enjoyable.”
