Kitchens with islands
When your kitchen layout just needs a little something extra. Whether that is more prep space or maybe some more storage, the addition of a kitchen island can give you both. Make your guests comfortable in the kitchen too by adding bar stools to your kitchen island and create seating for people to perch at while you are still cooking.
Discover which other kitchen layout is best for you: linear, galley or L-shaped.
Here are some tips to help you choose the best kitchen island design and layout for your home:
1. Choose Your Style
The most important thing to consider when designing a kitchen with an island is what type of look you want to achieve. Do you prefer modern kitchen designs, or do you like a more traditional kitchen? There are even more styles to choose from, including shaker kitchens and an industrial stainless steel kitchen.
2. Consider Your Space
Before choosing a specific design, consider how much worktop space you currently have and how much more you need. Do you have the floor space to have a kitchen island or even two? Make sure you will still have enough walking/working space between your new island and the rest of your kitchen cabinets. Measure to ensure all kitchen cabinet doors and appliances can be opened fully.
3. Think About Functionality
Consider the types of tasks you perform in your kitchen. Are you cooking multiple meals at once? Or are you preparing one meal at a time? Will you use your kitchen island for entertaining guests? These factors will determine whether you need additional seating or extra prep space. If you only need a little extra prep space on occasion, maybe a portable kitchen trolley will do the trick.
