Good bulb, but you do need a Hub for ThreadDavidThe IKEA bulbs and other Matter smart home products are great and reasonably priced. But they use Thread to communicate with your home WI-FI network. While they are Matter products IKEA neglect to tell you, you do need a Thread Hub in your house. Thread is a wireless communication standard, you may already have a Thread Hub you are not be aware of. Thread hubs are included in most Apple home devices, some Google, Alexa and Samsung devices. I have one in my new Samsung TV, but I had to activate it in the TV menu. The bulbs connected to my Samsung TV using the Matter code on the bulb instructions, do not loose this code, you need it if you rest the bulb. To connect them to my Alexa I had to "generate" a new Matter code in the Hub in my TV, and now the bulbs are also controlled by Alexa using voice commands. You only use the matter code that came with the bulb once at the start. If you haven't got a Thread Hub already you need to buy one, check out your devices online4
Nice but with some software issuesRayThe bulb looks good and the light is nice, although it does have a tiny bit of flicker that some flicker-sensitive individuals might notice when walking past it. The range of white temperatures (warm to cool white) is good. Its connection to Matter/Thread is generally reliable, but not without issues. If used with the Adaptive Lighting (Apple Home) feature, these bulbs will randomly turn themselves on during the day or night. Also, it would be good if it were possible to configure their behaviour after a power cut/failure, like with Philips Hue.3
