Not fit for purposeConorI have tonnes of inspellning plugs connected to Home Assistant with ZHA & ZB2MQTT, which are rock solid. And when I saw these new plugs announced, I thankfully bought another 10 of the old ones. My caution turned out to be correct because these new matter-over-thread ones are just awful. Major issues connecting them on matter over thread, and when you finally do get them connected, they drop off after a few days, and the whole thing begins again. This, unfortunately, is a very common theme across the internet with multiple users blowing up forums with the exact same problems. And not just with the Grillplats, but with every single Ikea Matter product that was launched at the start of 2026. IKEA needs to address these issues with some sort of firmware update. Very thankful, I just bought one for testing.1

The same as good old INSPELNINGValentinThis is a power monitoring plug that matches functionality of the good old INSPELNING plug, except that it uses more modern software. Being powered by the electric grid, this device acts as a repeater for all other new IKEA devices (and other devices that use Thread wireless protocol) this extending connectivity to more areas. The new light bulbs do the same. Externally, it has changed for the worse. The round shape doesn't match the square outlines of the UK/Ireland wall sockets and plugs. The front surface is easily scratched by the metal plug pins and the "Max 13A" imprint remains, inexplicably, upside down. As written in the notes that not many people read, the max rating for devices with an electric motor remains 300 Watts (inductive load), as opposed to 3 kW for things like heaters (resistive load).5
