Frustrating Installation and Poor Instructions Make This Pendant Lamp a HassleShaneThis product is a massive pain to install, and the method provided in the instructions isn't intuitive.
Since the cup isn't compatible with standard Irish ceiling roses, the instructions advise installing a flimsy hook into the ceiling, then wrapping the excess cable around it inside the cup and twisting — which, according to the instructions, should make it flush with the ceiling. Unfortunately, there's so much excess cable provided that it's impossible to achieve this, and you'll never get the cup flush with the ceiling unless you cut a significant portion of the cable. However, the instructions don't offer any guidance on this and just assume their single method will work.
My other concern is that IKEA believes a tiny hook screwed into the ceiling is better than a ceiling rose secured by rawl plugs.
In conclusion, I'd avoid this product. If you still want to attempt it, be prepared to cut the cable beforehand or pay an electrician to do it.
Great unique light with a fun vibe!NaoiseGreat looking light whether open or closed, with a "Death Star" vibe. I will need a stronger light bulb, though (using E27).
When open, it has a good spread of light and is a bit of a talking piece. The neighbours admire it, too. :-)
Assembly is easy enough, though the installation was a bit fiddly which is not the fault of the light but rather the previous light not using a cable hook.
