Can I get a VAT refund?

There are some cases in which you can request a VAT refund for your IKEA purchase.

If you are purchasing goods from IKEA for export outside of Ireland, you may be entitled to a VAT refund if you are either a non-Irish resident or registered for VAT in a country outside of Ireland.
Visitors to Ireland may be able to claim a VAT refund on goods purchased in Ireland when they leave the EU. This is known as the Retail Export Scheme. Under this scheme, qualifying purchases must be exported outside of the EU within 3 months of the date of purchase. More information on the Retail Export Scheme can be found on the Revenue.ie website.
If you are exporting goods outside of Ireland using a third-party shipping service, you may also be entitled to claim a VAT refund. Please note that by law, any such claim must be made within 3 months of the date of purchase.
We can also offer a VAT refund on certain products on the grounds of disability, provided specific conditions are met. More information on VAT exemptions relating to disability can be found on the Revenue.ie website.
To make a VAT refund claim, or if you have any questions relating to the repayment of VAT, please contact our VAT Refund team by email at VATRefunds@ikea.com with the following details:
  • Order confirmation or receipt
  • Utility bill for the address outside of Ireland
  • Certification of shipment
  • Your contact details, including phone number, full name, and full address
