How can I improve my IKEA Kreativ scan?
Following the quick tips covered in this article will ensure that you’ll take the best possible scan of your own room.
1. Where to stand and how to prepare your room
- Stand back to capture as much of the room as possible in the horizontal photo, positioning yourself with your back against a corner or wall facing the area you want to design.
- Ensure the floor is included in the photo for reference. This wider perspective improves the scan quality.
2. Capture in good light
- Make sure your room is well lit. Open blinds and turn on lights if necessary.
- Rooms captured in bright conditions will produce much better images.
3. Taking a wide-angle picture
- You will frame your wide-angle picture towards the center of the area you want to design.
- For users scanning with a 5 Point Panoramic method, follow the app's guidance to pivot your phone to 5 targets (wait for the checkmark before moving to the next target). Hold your phone with both hands, pivot using your hands and forearms, and keep your elbows close to your body. Avoid waving your phone side-to-side and refrain from turning or twisting your entire body.
4. Accepting the preview
- Review the capture preview displayed on your screen.
- Ensure it encompasses the entire area you intend to design and that it appears sufficiently bright and clear.
- If both conditions are met, proceed by tapping "Yes" to continue.
5. Overlapping your wide-angle picture with a scan
- After taking the wide-angle picture, the app will ask you to align the image you see on the left side of your screen with the one on the right.
- No need for perfection here – roughly align the images and tap Done.
6. Measuring the room
- Stand in place and sweep your phone in a slow and wide figure-8 motion, starting at the center of the area you want to design.
- Ensure your camera captures the floors, walls, and ceilings of your room, covering a wide area in front of you.
7. Take another wide figure-8 scan (devices with LiDAR capabilities will automatically skip this step)
- Take a big step to your left or right when prompted, and then tap Done.
- You’ll see a split screen that guides you to align pictures 1 and 2 – hit Done when ready.
- Perform another figure-8 motion.
Once the scanning process is done, we'll send an email for you to start designing your room. You can access it to design in the mobile app by going to your profile > Settings > IKEA Kreativ > Saved rooms. Or find it on our website in your dashboard.
