Garden sails & privacy screens
Sunshine and summer warmth are wonderful, especially if you're relaxing in the cool shade under a garden sail. The fabrics on our canopies give you very good protection from UV rays, and some shelter you from a light rain shower, so you can stay and relax under the parasol since the canopy repels water. Also, garden sails are easy to take down, fold up and store away at the end of the season.
What is a canopy?
A garden canopy or garden sail is essentially a piece of fabric that is hung up to offer protection from the elements – especially sun, wind and rain. A canopy is easy to set up and install, giving you shade on demand. For instance, a canopy can be very useful over your garden table or your favourite lounging chair.
Our garden canopies come with 6 snap hooks, 3 springs and a 15-meter cord included, so fastening the canopy shouldn’t be an issue. However, in the unlikely situation that you can’t find anywhere to fasten a canopy, we have other wind and sunshields to choose from. Have a look at our selection of privacy screens that can be fastened to a balcony rail or in the ground.
What are canopies made of?
Canopies tend to be made from materials that offer protection against sun, wind and rain. Polyester is a good choice since it protects against both the sun’s UV rays and is water resistant.
All our canopies are made of 100 % polyester. Polyester har an Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) rating of 25+, which blocks 96% of the ultraviolet radiation. This means that you can enjoy relaxing under a canopy without being worried about sunburn.
Are canopies waterproof?
A garden canopy can be waterproof if it’s made in a completely waterproof material. However, most aren’t, since there’s a risk they would look like a tarpaulin.
Our canopies are not completely waterproof, but they are water repellent. That means that you can rest easy underneath one without having to worry about an unexpected rain shower. However, a canopy will not withstand heavy rain without some water leaking through. Luckily, most of us won’t want to enjoy a nap outside in that kind of weather anyway.
How to make a garden canopy?
It might seem like a good idea to build you own garden sail. How hard can it be, it’s just a piece of fabric fastened with some ropes! That is true, but there are some things you need to consider.
First, you need material that can withstand the elements and protect you against both UV rays and rain.
Second, you’ll need something to fasten the canopy with. If you can add some sturdy or reinforced holes to the fabric, you can easily tie some ropes through the holes. Adding hooks and springs to the ropes will make it easier for you to stretch the fabric when setting it up. This lessens the risk of having the canopy flapping noisily in the wind.
With just a few ingredients you can build your own canopy. But sometimes it can be difficult to find a fabric, ropes, hooks and springs that look good and match each other. If you don’t want the hassle of looking for all the parts separately, we’ve got you covered with our stylish garden canopies.
