Keep your food cool with energy-smart technology

You've probably also realised that the fridge and freezer are among the biggest energy guzzlers at home . This is especially obvious as costs for electricity rise . But energy-efficient technology has long been expensive and the most energy-efficient products in energy class A have not been available for the many. Until now.

With FÖRTOFT fridge/freezer, you can cool your food – and your costs. Göhkan Apaydin is one of our engineers who worked with a supplier to make it possible. “The great thing is that a lower price combined with reduced energy consumption means you can earn back the appliance investment faster than before.”

Every component counts

The energy efficiency of a fridge and freezer depends on two things: the insulation and the compressor – the part that drives the cooling circuit and keeps food cool. “For the best effect, we focused on both and looked for the best components at the lowest possible price.” In the compressor, the team made both mechanical refinements and electronic improvements to the control – the “brain” of the compressor. This resulted in a more efficient compressor that consumes less energy and is quieter. “We had good timing. The prices of several key components had come down, which made solutions possible that were previously too expensive.”

Better cooling with less materials

Fridges and freezers have traditionally been insulated with polyurethane foam, a thick, ineffective material. Here we chose thin vacuum insulation panels instead. “It’s an efficient technology since vacuum hardly conducts any heat, so it takes significantly less energy to maintain a stable temperature." Thanks to the thin, yet well-insulated walls, you also have more room for everything you want to keep cool – everything from the week’s leftovers to the weekend’s hearty stew.
