What if I can't redeem my IKEA gift card or prepaid card?

If an IKEA gift or prepaid card can't be redeemed, there's usually a simple explanation for it. It's often due to missing card details, a temporary credit reservation, or the fact that certain types of cards can only be used in the IKEA store. With the following tips, you can quickly solve many problems yourself.

First, check the redemption requirements

To redeem your IKEA gift or prepaid card online, you will need the card number and the corresponding 4-digit PIN or a 16-digit redemption code. The card details are only entered in the last step of the payment process.
If your card doesn't have a PIN, it may be an older gift card, a refund card or a promotional card. These cards can usually only be redeemed in an IKEA store.
Also, pay attention to the card number: IKEA gift and prepaid cards start with the sequence of digits 627598224. This also applies to many gift cards or vouchers issued through selected partners and third-party sellers. If your card starts with this sequence of numbers, you can usually check its balance via the IKEA balance query and use the card at IKEA.
If the card number does not start with 627598224, it is likely a voucher or gift card from a third-party provider. In this case, the redemption conditions of the respective provider apply. Please contact their customer service directly if you have any questions about usage, validity or credit.

Rule out input errors

If the card is not accepted online, please check the card number and PIN entered. Even small typos or extra spaces can cause the card to be displayed as invalid.
If your card appears to be "unloaded" or without available credit, it is recommended that you first check the current card balance.

Use multiple gift cards

You can use several IKEA gift cards or prepaid cards for one order. If you have any problems, enter the cards one after the other if possible. This can often prevent technical errors.

Reserved balance after payment cancellation

If an order process has been cancelled or not completed completely, the card balance may be temporarily reserved. In most cases, the Reservation automatically cancelled and the credit within 24 hours released again.
If the card has already been assigned to a shopping cart or an order, the approval sometimes even takes place within an hour.

Remove voucher from cart

If you have a gift card or voucher in your shopping cart and have not completed the purchase afterwards, the credit may be temporarily blocked. Remove the voucher from the shopping cart and wait up to 24 hours. After that, the credit will usually be available again without restrictions.

Check the type of card you have

Depending on the type of card, there are different redemption options:

  • IKEA gift and prepaid cards with a PIN or redemption code can be used online and in stores.
  • Promotional cards, for example from the IKEA Advent calendar, are only valid in the store.
  • Ticket Plus® City tickets can only be used in the respective redemption area and only in the furniture store.
  • Vouchers-at-Work or Corporate Benefits prepaid cards basically work like IKEA gift cards.
  • Vouchers from other providers, such as Cadooz, Gutscheingold or Wunschgutschein, cannot be redeemed directly on IKEA.de. Please note the redemption conditions of the respective partner.

Special features of coupons

Additional terms and conditions apply to coupons. On IKEA.de, only one coupon can be redeemed per order. Coupons also cannot be combined with certain other promotions. Therefore, please check the respective coupon conditions before completing your purchase.

Click & Collect

IKEA gift and prepaid cards with PIN can also be used for Click & Collect orders. It is not possible to combine them with certain payment methods such as Klarna.

Gift card not received

If you haven't received a gift card you've ordered, you can contact IKEA customer service via chat. Simply enter the search term "gift card not received" to quickly find the right support.

No PIN available

Older gift cards or refund cards sometimes do not have a PIN. These cards can only be redeemed in the IKEA store. Cards without a PIN also have no expiration date due to the lack of online functionality.

Card number or PIN damaged

If the card number, PIN or redemption code is no longer legible, the card cannot be checked, replaced or refunded. Therefore, keep your gift card safe and avoid damage to the card data.

Validity of your gift card

IKEA gift cards can generally be redeemed within three years from the date of purchase. If you're unsure whether your card is still valid, you can check your balance at any time.
