The charging speed at the Mer charging station is slow, why is that?
The specified speed on the charger is the maximum power that the charger can deliver. It depends on the following factors, among others:
-
Ambient temperature: The charging performance can be limited by temperatures that are too low or too high.
-
The condition of the battery: A new battery in good condition can charge faster than an older or used battery.
-
The state of charge of the battery: When the battery is almost completely discharged or charged, the charging power is reduced. Manufacturers usually specify their charging capacity in the range between 10% and 80%. Depending on the battery management, the maximum charging capacity is usually only reached for a short time under optimum conditions.
-
The number of active charging processes at a charger: If several vehicles are charging at a station, the available charging power is divided fairly between the vehicles.
