Our cotton table runners are long on style

Combine functionality with style and elegance with table runners. Runners protect your table cloths from spills and stains while adding a stunning contrasting visual element that runs down the middle of the table—or across the table from one guest to another.

Want your dining table itself to be visible while still offering some level of protection against heat, spills and scratches? Some people choose to use a table runner alone, without tablecloths beneath them. When used in this fashion, the table runner serves as a protective layer for anything placed in the center of the table, including serveware, vases of real or artificial flowers, candle holders and more. To protect the areas where people will eat, consider adding place mats during meal time to keep your dining room furniture looking its best!

Table cover FAQs

How to use a table runner?

Table runners typically run down the middle of a long table where the serving dishes, water and wine carafes and other items will be placed. Shorter runners are used in a different fashion, extending across the table from one guest to another.

How to wash cloth table cloths?

Most of our cloth table cloths are made from machine washable cotton, and can be tumbled dry on low or medium heat. Some styles, including cotton blends, may have different laundering requirements. Plastic table cloths and table cloths with appliques are often best cleaned by wiping clean and allowing to air dry. Please review the product details for more information on how to wash any table cover we offer.

How to measure for a table cloth?

With length and width in mind, measure from the center of your table outwards and multiply by 2 to get a measurement for the entire table. Your personal preference for the drop of the table cover comes into play here, so consider how much drape you’d like when choosing a size.

How to measure for a table runner?

To fit a table runner lengthwise or across the table, measure the width of your table and divide by 3, while factoring in the amount of drop you’d like.

Are table runners still trendy?

Yes, table runners are still an in-style choice, with many on-trend colors and patterns to choose from. That said, runners never really fall out of fashion completely even when not trending as many people enjoy the look and practicality they offer.

Should a table runner hang over the table?

Typically, yes. Most people allow for at least several inches of drop on each side of their runner, but the desired length is a matter of personal preference. For the most classic look, your runner should be slightly shorter than the table cloth it covers.

Do you put placements on top of a table runner?

Placemats typically overlap—at least partially—with your table runner. How much of each placemat is on top of the runner depends on several factors, including the width of your table, the width of your table runner and the size of your place mats. On a very wide table, the placemats and table runner will potentially not overlap with each other at all.

How many inches should a table cloth hang over a table?

How much overhang a table cloth should have is most influenced by the occasion or formality of the setting, and your own personal preference. Casual dining settings typically call for a 6-10 inch table cloth overhang. More formal settings often have a 14-18 inch overhang, but can extend all the way to the floor. When choosing a longer overhang, consider if it will interfere with people sitting and moving around comfortably in their seats and allow for dining chairs to be tucked in.
