But when a linen fabric is completely new, it can feel a bit stiff, and it takes a couple of washes before it has that soft feel and elegant fall you want in a curtain. “Linen products are often washed already when they are manufactured to become softer, but we discovered a method that showers the curtain with hot air to get the same softening effect as a wash” says Alexander. The method means that your newly bought curtains fall softly and evenly already when you hang them up – and less water and chemicals are used. Later, when you wash your curtains, they only become more beautiful. If you prefer a relaxed and washed feel, you can hang them up straight away without ironing the natural creases.

The curtains are sold in pairs. The sizes stated refer to each single curtain. For the total width, double the width of a single curtain.
Since the fabric will shrink when washing it is a good idea to wash the curtains prior to cutting/hemming.
You can use SY iron-on hemming strip to shorten the curtains without sewing.
16 gliders and hooks are usually recommended for each curtain with a width of 145 cm. You can increase or decrease the number depending on whether you want narrower or fuller folds in the pleats.

Beautiful but do be careful of runsKarenThese are maybe my most favorite curtains I’ve ever purchased, and I’m old. Beautiful linen fabric.
The fabric will run, though, if it catches on something. So, IKEA should put the package inside a bag before throwing into a box with a bunch of shredded cardboard. They ended up with cardboard dust/lint on them and got a couple small runs because of the negligent packaging.
You would also want to be sure they weren’t up against metal window screens that had any sharp edges, because they could get runs.
The quality of the fabric is great, though, and I was able to fuse two panels together easily with the fuse tape IKEA sells for hemming curtains. I used a steam iron and they handled it well.
They are also pretty wrinkled when you get them, so be prepared to iron and being linen, they will still wrinkle a bit before you hang them up, but the wrinkles fall out fairly well and they look great.
They are very long, but I didn’t hem mine because I expect them to shrink when I wash them. You could wash them before hanging, though. I was too lazy:)
I would definitely buy these again. They let a lot of light in, but are not sheer and actually work well to keep the heat from direct sun making the room hot and preventing fading of fabric and furniture.
