How IKEA's kitchen measurement service works

Before a kitchen measurement

Explore our kitchen solutions online and try out the planning tools to begin shaping your vision. Before the measurement takes place, it’s important that the walls and ceiling are finished, that plumbing, electrical and gas connections are installed and accessible, and that the area is free from loose items to ensure a smooth measuring process.

During a kitchen measurement

A professional technician will visit your home, take photos, and collect all the necessary measurements and details – including wall conditions, corner angles, and the placement of doors, windows, pipes, and other installations.

Please note that the service does not include measuring for worktops or adapting to electricity, as these must be adjusted according to the new layout.

After a kitchen measurement

Now it’s time to book a planning appointment with our kitchen specialists! The measurements from the service are already uploaded into our design tool, so you can start planning your dream kitchen right away.

When you book a measurement with IKEA, a service order is created and sent to a professional external service partner who will carry out the measurement for you. If you wish to cancel or change your service order, please contact IKEA. Payment for the measurement service must be made to IKEA according to the chosen payment method.

The Measurement service ensures that you, as a customer, receive all relevant measurements needed to plan your kitchen, documented in a digital drawing. To complete the measurement, our service partner will visit your home. The drawing will also be sent to IKEA so that we can assist you in the best possible way with your kitchen planning and order.

Note that the measurement service does not include countertop measurements or electrical adjustments.

Do you want to measure your kitchen yourself?

Here are some helpful tips to guide you.
When cooking, estimating can sometimes be enough. But when planning a new kitchen, every millimeter counts. That’s why it’s especially important to measure carefully before installing your new kitchen. Take plenty of time to get accurate measurements – and don’t hesitate to measure multiple times to be absolutely sure.

With our measurement service, a technician handles everything and collects all the important information listed below. If you choose to measure yourself, here you will find all the information you need to plan your kitchen accurately.

Room measurements: Measure the room’s width, the length of each wall, and the ceiling height. On each wall, mark the locations of electrical outlets, water, gas, and ventilation. Don’t forget to measure and note the positions of radiators, pipework, chimneys, and other fixed installations.

Windows: Measure the height and width of the windows, the distance from the floor to the bottom of the window, and the thickness of the window glass and frames. Also, measure the space needed to fully open the windows.

Doors: Measure the height and width of the door, the distance from the floor to the bottom of the door, as well as the thickness of the door and door frame. Also, remember to measure the space needed to fully open the door.

Electrical: Measure the distance from the floor and side walls to electrical outlets and switches. Note the type of electrical connections available (single-phase or three-phase), the voltage, and how many appliances you plan to connect (dishwasher, fridge, stove, oven).

Ventilation: Measure the diameter of the ventilation opening and the distance from the floor and side walls. If you are using IKEA’s flexible duct, make sure the measurements match their standards.

Water pipes: Measure the distance from the side walls to the water sources, as well as from the floor and walls to the water drain. Also, note if there are additional water pipes, for example, for a dishwasher or washing machine.

Gas pipes: Measure the distance from the floor and side walls to the gas pipe, including its diameter and placement.

Please note:

Countertop measurement is not included in the service

The kitchen must be ready for measurement (ensure the areas to be measured are clear and accessible for measuring tools)

Electrical installations usually need to be adapted to your new kitchen layout and are therefore not included in the drawings.

Our partner is responsible for the measurements as the kitchen appears at the time of measurement, based on what is visually visible and measurable on site. If changes occur in the kitchen after the measurement service, such as tile removal or wall relocation, this may affect the measurements. The measurement is documented with photos and actual measurement results.
