How does living room storage planning work?

IKEA storage planning for living rooms is a free planning service that is available both in stores and online. The planning meeting lasts about 25-45 minutes, depending on the planning you choose to book. You can also create a storage solution in your living room with one of our free online planning tools.

During your meeting, you'll meet an IKEA sales representative at a living room storage area in your local IKEA store or online, whichever suits you best. Together you will go through your needs and wishes. Our sales team will help you plan storage in the living room with smart solutions and a well-thought-out flow for a smoother everyday life.
Here's how it works:
  1. Get inspired. Take a moment and browse ideas for storage in the living room and explore our planning tools for living room storage and our sofa planning tools.
    If you use one of our online planning tools to create your living room storage design, be sure to save the design code. You will need it to edit your design later or to use it during a planning meeting with one of our sales representatives. You can find your planning code at the bottom of the planning tool page by selecting "Finish". If you'd prefer to receive a link or email with your specific design and planning code, select "Save for Later" and follow the on-screen steps.
  2. Book an appointment. You can choose to book your appointment either online or at your nearest IKEA store.
  3. Measure your space. In order for our sales representative to be able to help you in the best way, we need measurements and information about the room. Measure and note the height, width, and depth of the space, as well as the location and dimensions of electrical outlets, doors, windows, and other details that may affect the planning.
  4. What do you need? Make a list of all your basic needs and wants to create your dream room. 
  5. Take pictures. A photo of the room can be very useful in your planning. 
  6. Do you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment? Follow the link in your confirmation email if you need to reschedule or cancel your planning appointment.
  7. Discuss your dreams and wishes with an IKEA living room sales representative during your meeting. You will receive a 3D drawing and a shopping list with everything you need. A planning meeting lasts between 25-45 minutes depending on the planning you book.
  8. Take the time to go through the plan and next steps. You can make adjustments to the design if necessary by opening the drawing sent to you by email. Once you are satisfied with the final design, you can visit a store or book an appointment online to complete your order.
