How does a bedroom planning work?

Bedroom planning at IKEA is a free planning service that is available both in stores and online. A bedroom planning meeting lasts approximately 45 minutes. You can also create a drawing with one of our free planning tools on the website.

During your visit, you'll meet a bedroom specialist at your local IKEA store or online, whichever suits you best. Together you go through your needs and wishes. Our sales representative will help you plan bedroom furniture with smart storage and a well-thought-out flow for smoother routines and a simpler everyday life.
Here's how it works:
  1. Get inspired. Take a moment and be inspired. Browse our bedroom ideas and explore all our free online planning tools. Feel free to write down what styles, colors, products and ideas you like. It will help the sales representative prepare proposals that align with your desired design for your visit.
    If you use any of our planning tools to create your bedroom design, be sure to save the design code. You will need it to edit your drawing or to use it during a meeting with a sales representative. You can find your planning code at the bottom of the planning tool page by selecting "Finish". If you'd prefer to receive a link or email with your specific design and planning code, select "Save for Later" and follow the on-screen steps.
  2. Book an appointment. You can choose to book your appointment either online or in the nearest IKEA store.
  3. Measure your space. In order for our bedroom specialist to be able to help you in the best way, we need measurements and information about the room. Measure and note the height, width, and depth of the space, as well as the location and dimensions of electrical outlets, doors, windows, and other details that may affect the planning. You can also use IKEA Kreativ tool. 
  4. What do you need? Make a list of all your basic needs and wants to create your dream room. 
  5. Take photos. A photo of the room can be very useful in your planning.  
  6. Do you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment? Follow the link in your confirmation email if you need to reschedule or cancel your planning time.
  7. Discuss your dreams and wishes with our bedroom specialist during your meeting. You will receive a 3D drawing and a shopping list with everything you need. A bedroom planning appointment lasts about 45 minutes.
  8. Take the time to go through the plan and next steps. You can make adjustments to the design if necessary by opening the drawing sent to you by email. Once you are satisfied with the final design, you can visit a store or book an appointment online to complete your order.
