The versatile TOLKNING series is made of natural fibres with a warm look. This free-standing headboard in rattan spreads a calm feel in the bedroom and gets even more beautiful and personal over the years.
Skilled craftspeople have woven the product by hand, so each one is one of a kind
Rattan is a natural material which ages beautifully and develops its own unique character over time.
The material brings a piece of nature into your home and spreads a calm, warm feeling.
You can buy several headboards and place them together to create a larger headboard.
No need to worry about marks on the wall, since the back of the headboard has a small bumper made of jute to prevent scratches.
The headboard is free-standing, so you don´t need to fix it to the wall.
The legs of the headboard are designed to fit walls both with and without a skirting board.
Each product is a unique, handmade work of art with natural variations in colour and shape.

Rattan is happiest in dry, cool environments with an even temperature.
The headboard should be placed between the wall and the bed frame, so that it can lean against the wall.
When we developed TOLKNING, we worked with experienced artisans. The result is a decorative and multi-functional series of natural fibre products that carry warmth, a unique expression and lots of character.
Simi Gauba and Kristin Pfannenschmidt are two of our product developers who are based in Vietnam and work a lot with natural fibres.
“When we created TOLKNING, we got help from skilled artisans who know the strengths and weaknesses of the material,” says Simi. “Without them, we wouldn’t be able to offer these products to our customers.”
Form and function hand in hand
When each natural fibre is treated right, it can be transformed into almost anything.
“We can create products that are as beautiful as functional. It’s impossible to manufacture two that look exactly the same since every natural fibre shifts in colour and texture. On the other hand, customers get something unique with lots of character,” says Kristin.
Cooperation between man and nature
Simi says that working with natural fibres can be challenging, but that is also a part of the charm.
“The TOLKNING series reflects a heritage that is worth preserving – man and nature together and skills passed on from generation to generation. I think that’s one of the reasons why these kinds of products are so loved. They have a soul and warmth that many people like – perfect if you want to add genuine materials and natural beauty to your home.”
What is rattan?
Rattan is a strong yet lightweight and flexible material made from the rattan plant’s stem. It can be used both whole and split into thinner materials that are braided into things like furniture and baskets. Rattan belongs to the palm family and climbs along trees, though no trees are required to be felled when the rattan cane is harvested. Since it is a natural material and the products are often handmade by skilled craftspeople, each object gets a completely unique look.
“My idea with the TOLKNING series was to create sustainable products made from natural fibres that could be used in different ways and in several places throughout the home. I started with my Scandinavian heritage and, in combination with the knowhow and professional skills of craftspeople, the unique products took shape – made by people and for people. I hope they will be useful, bring you joy and make you feel proud about making a conscious choice.”
