How to turn your balcony into an instant cinema

Up the spontaneity! Moving an ordinary activity to a new setting can be a surprisingly refreshing experience. Is it a beautiful evening out? Stage a film night on your balcony.

Go collect your favourite snacks

Without queues to stand in or transport required, you need a minimum of preparation. One sets up the projector, the other gets suitable food and drink. Maybe invite a neighbour or two?

Hang screen, let opening credits roll

A shower curtain on a rod makes a great ad hoc film screen. Or use a sheet and some drawing pins. To make it breeze-proof, tighten it with weights (if the surface behind it is right, magnets work wonders).

In the afterglow of a good day

Film night or not, some solar-powered lamps are a first-aid kit for your balcony cosy. Let them harness sunlight during the day, and you’ll set the mood just right whenever opportunity calls.
