How does the IKEA kitchen measuring service work?

Our kitchen measurement service is a straightforward process designed to provide you with the accurate foundation you need for your kitchen plan. Here is a step-by-step guide to how it works, from initial consideration to having a complete set of measurements ready for your design.

1. Plan and prepare
Before booking, it’s a good idea to start thinking about your future kitchen.
  • Get inspired: Start dreaming and researching by browsing our kitchen inspiration galleries or experimenting with our online kitchen planners.
  • Check availability: Confirm that the service is available for you by using our availability tool.
  • Ensure the space is "Measure-Ready": The kitchen must be prepared for accurate measurements. Walls and ceilings must be finished (e.g., plasterboard applied). All plumbing, gas, and electrical connections must be in their final positions. Preferably, your old kitchen must already have been removed, although this is not a requirement. The area must be clear and safe for the technician to work in.
2. Book and manage your appointment
Once you're prepared, you can book the service.
  • Booking: Visit a co-worker in store about a measuring appointment; we will then refer you to a third-party technician. The service is provided on terms agreed to between you and the technician.
  • Pay for the service: Payment for the IKEA kitchen measuring service is arranged directly with the third-party technician. This service is a $199 flat fee.
  • Changes and cancellations: If your plans change, you can reschedule or cancel your appointment by notifying your booked technician directly.
3. Get ready for your appointment
To ensure the visit is successful, please complete the following steps before the technician arrives:
  • Confirmation: A measurement technician will contact you on the next business day after your service is booked to confirm the arrival time and address.
  • Prepare your requirements or restrictions: Be ready to point out any hidden items that could impact the design (e.g., concealed pipes) and make the technician aware of any other restrictions, such as where to park or how to find the address.
4. The measurement visit
An experienced, professional technician will visit your home to conduct the measurement.
  • Arrival and duration: The technician will arrive at the start of your appointment. The visit may take up to 120 minutes, depending on the complexity of your kitchen.
  • What the technician does: The technician will take photos and collect all necessary details, including room dimensions, the location of windows, doors, obstacles, and all utility connections (water, gas, electricity, and ventilation).
  • Your role: Please be available to point out any hidden features and answer any questions the technician may have.
  • Confirmation of service: Upon completion, you will be asked to sign a form to confirm the measurement service was completed to your satisfaction.
5. Access your measurements and start designing
With the measurements complete, you are ready for the next step in your kitchen journey.
  • Receiving your measurements: Within 48 hours of the appointment, your kitchen's precise measurements will be shared with you and with IKEA.
  • Next steps: You can now book a kitchen planning appointment with one of our IKEA kitchen specialists to start designing your dream kitchen. Alternatively, you can go to our online kitchen planners and confidently begin creating your perfect kitchen design based on the measurements provided.
