How does bedroom planning work?
IKEA bedroom planning is a free planning service available both in-store and online. A bedroom planning appointment lasts approximately 60 minutes. You can also create a bedroom plan using one of our free online planning tools.
- Get inspired. Spend some time browsing our bedroom/wardrobe inspiration and exploring all our free online 3D planners. Take notes on which styles, colours, products and ideas you like so it’s easier for the Planning Specialist during your appointment to understand what designs and looks you prefer.
If you use one of our online planning tools to create your bedroom design, be sure to save the design code. You’ll need it to edit your plan later or to use it during a planning session with a Specialist. You can find your planning code at the end of the planning tool page by selecting 'Finalise'. If you prefer to receive a link or an email with your specific design and planning code, select 'Save for later' or ’Save it to your Profile’ and follow the on‑screen steps.
- Book an appointment. You can choose to book your appointment either online or at your nearest store.
- Measure your space. The bedroom/wardrobe Planning specialist will need details about the space or room. Record measurements of height, width and depth as well as positions/dimensions of electrical outlets, doors, windows, etc. You can also use the IKEA Kreativ’s scanning tool.
- What do you need? Make a list of all your essential needs and wishes to create your dream space.
- Take pictures. A drawing, house plan or a photo of the space can be very useful.
- Need to reschedule/cancel your appointment? Follow the link in your confirmation email if you need to reschedule or cancel your planning appointment. If possible, please do this at least 6 hours before the scheduled appointment.
- Discuss your dreams and wishes with our bedroom Planning specialist during your appointment. You will receive a 3D plan or a shopping list with everything you need. A bedroom/wardrobe planning appointment lasts 60 minutes.
- Take time to assess the plan and next steps. You can make design changes if needed by accessing the plan sent to you via email. When you’re happy with the final design, visit IKEA in-store or online to finalise your order. Make sure to save your new design code before importing to your cart.
