Easy wins to eat more sustainably

Everyone’s food choices matter. Choosing plant-rich foods and certified products from responsible sources can contribute to a more sustainable diet.

We have many plant-rich options to choose from and we are committed that they will always be the same price or lower that the meat-based alternatives.

We love meatballs. But we also love to try new things. Eating less meat and more plants is better for the planet. So that's why we love our plantballs, too.

More plant-based options means less climate impact. By adding options that are delicious, nutritious and responsibly produced to our packaged food offer, restaurants and bistros, we can also have a positive impact on the climate.

A meatball without the meat

Like the taste of meat but not the climate footprint? Then this member of our HUVUDROLL family might be something for you. The plant ball looks, tastes and feels like its meaty counterpart, only has less negative impact.

Have you ever tried plant mince?

Made from pea protein, our VÄRLDSKLOK plant mince is a great alternative to regular mince, for instance if you want to prepare burgers, chili, lasagne or Bolognese. It includes no animal ingredients, meaning a good choice for vegetarians and vegans.

The veggie hot dog

We have challenged ourselves to develop a delicious veggie hot dog for the Swedish Bistro – a plant-rich, more sustainable option to our much-loved iconic hot dog. All the flavour of the classic dog, but with no animal ingredients.

Soft ice – a cool way to lower your climate footprint

Soft ice is one of the most popular Swedish Bistro products worldwide. This vegan treat in oat and chocolate not only tastes great, but also has almost half the climate footprint of its dairy-based friend.

Useful tips

Mix it up

Eating a plant-rich diet is one of the most significant actions an individual can take to reduce their climate footprint. So why not add some variety to your next dinner plate? Vegetables, beans, legumes and grains are plant-rich and contribute to a healthy, balanced diet.

Take small steps first

Small steps can be the most effective way to change your habits in the long term. One small but impactful change could be having meat play a smaller role on your plate, either by filling it up with greens first or by mixing some veggies into your favourite dish.

An ocean full of flavour

All salmon served and sold at IKEA comes from farms that are certified to the ASC global standard for responsibly farmed seafood, while all wild-caught fish and shrimp come from MSC-certified fisheries protecting seafood supplies for generations to come.

Choose coffee and chocolate with care

By choosing products with trusted certifications like the Rainforest Alliance and UTZ, you support sustainable farming methods that protect people, the environment and local economies. All IKEA coffee is UTZ certified and meets EU organic farming standards, meaning it’s grown without chemicals and helps improve farmers’ livelihoods.
