Home idea with IKEA: a relaxing and tranquil bedroom
In a new family home in Sigulda, the bedroom has all the makings of a peaceful retreat – a stunning view, plenty of space, and abundant natural light... but no furniture! The owners admit that their "temporary solution" of a mattress on the floor has lasted longer than expected. So, how can they create a truly relaxing, comfortable, and functional bedroom? IKEA's interior designer offers insights into soothing color schemes and practical solutions that promote tranquility and ease for a young family’s everyday life.
Before
The house, featuring a bedroom with a stunning view, is new but largely unfinished. The bedroom itself has become almost a permanent setup with just a mattress on the floor, a small open wardrobe, and no curtains to cover the windows. The owners long for their own oasis of relaxation, a space to unwind after a long day, and a practical solution for their growing storage needs as their family expands.
After
Inspired by the breathtaking view outside, the interior exudes calm and harmony, seamlessly complementing nature with bold wall colors and elegant curtains that "frame" the scenery. The understated Scandinavian design employs a minimalist palette, ideal for the bedroom, where fewer tones promote a sense of tranquility and enhance relaxation. The focal point is the large bed, perfectly coordinated with the wall tones, while the rest of the furniture has been carefully selected to match, creating a cohesive and serene atmosphere.
Solutions for a more comfortable everyday life
Wall-mounted bedside tables are a practical choice for the bedroom, as they make floor cleaning easier. For lighting, consider smart solutions – connecting multiple lights to a single control allows you to dim or turn them off without leaving your bed. It's also wise to choose a variety of light sources, ensuring you can comfortably read, check your reflection, and perform other daily activities with the right lighting.
A walk-in wardrobe and separate sleeping area
The most striking change in the room is the bold division of the sleeping and wardrobe areas using the SKYTTA sliding door system. This creates the feeling of two distinct spaces—one for relaxation and another for practical activities like storage and ironing. Sliding doors are an ideal solution when partition walls aren't possible or desirable, offering a lighter, more open feel while still effectively dividing the space visually.
Cosy accents
When designing an interior, it's important to consider not only the larger elements but also the smaller decorative items. These details add a personal, homely touch to the overall space. The décor of other rooms can also influence the choice of accents, ensuring a cohesive and harmonious style throughout the home. To make a statement, the most eye-catching pieces can be highlighted with accent lighting, drawing attention to their beauty.
Smart tech for more everyday comfort
The designer incorporated smart technology to enhance everyday convenience, especially in the bedroom, where air quality plays a crucial role in restful sleep. An air purifier was chosen alongside an air quality sensor, which automatically adjusts the purifier’s intensity. Both devices can be easily controlled through an app, streamlining their operation. The app also manages other connected elements in the room, such as speakers and lighting. By installing smart bulbs, you can effortlessly adjust the brightness, dim the lights, or even change their color, all from the same device.
