The role of childhood experiences in parenting

The session is led by Dr Sabīne Bērziņa, a Doctor of Psychology and expert at the Latvian Parents’ Organisation.

Parents often expreience strong emotions because of their child's behavior that are rooted in their own childhood experiences. This session will help you better understand how the past influences parenting today.

In this lesson, you will learn:

  • how parents' childhood experiences influence their reactions to their child's behavior;
  • how to recognize situations that trigger old emotions;
  • how to respond more consciously and build healthy relationship with your child.

Most common sleeping disorders at different ages

The class is led by Marta Celmiņa, a pediatrician and sleep specialist at the Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine Center of the Children's Clinical University Hospital.

Sleep is essential for both a child's development and parents' well-being, but sometimes daily habits and mistakes prevent the whole family from getting a good night's sleep.

In this session, you will learn:

  • what are the most common sleep disorders at different ages;
  • what mistakes parents make when organizing sleep;
  • how to improve sleep quality for children and adults.

Emotional needs of a child

The session is led by Dr Sabīne Bērziņa, a Doctor of Psychology and expert at the Latvian Parents’ Organisation.

A child's emotional needs are the foundation for secure attachment, healthy self-esteem, and the ability to form relationships. This session will help parents better understand their child's emotional needs and support them day-to-day.

In this session, you will learn:

  • what the main emotional needs of a child are;
  • how to identify them at different ages;
  • how parents can strengthen emotional security of a child.
