3 alternative DIY snow globes

Get inspired with our three new takes on decorative ‘snow’ globes that will last beyond the holidays.

Are you looking for ideas for decorating your living room this holiday? Make your own snow globe using a jar. IKEA offers a lot of different glass jars and vases, such as VINTER 2017 vase/tealight holder in clear glass.
Are you looking for ideas for decorating your living room this holiday? Make your own snow globe using a jar. IKEA offers a lot of different glass jars and vases, such as VINTER 2017 vase/tealight holder in clear glass.

1. Do a fishy fun jar. A jar with an airtight seal can do more than preserve your homemade jams – it can also become a mini aquarium! Just put a plastic toy inside and fill it with water, a few drops of washing-up liquid and some shiny bling.

2. Create a winter wonderland globe. Spray paint some porcelain figurines or toys in a colour to match your space. Place them in a glass vase with a big opening so you can easily arrange the deco (we went for a tealight holder). Add some fake snow and fairy lights for a Christmassy feel.

3. Make a cacti globe. You don’t need to go all in with water, glitter and glue to create an atmospheric jar. Here we just put a cacti in an upside down SINNERLIG jar. The bonus: this globe is long-lasting, so you can display it all year round if you like.

We love to see our customers get creative with our products. Go for it! But please note that altering or modifying IKEA products so they can no longer be re-sold or used for their original purpose, means the IKEA commercial guarantees and your right to return the products will be lost.
