IKEA Shibuya Renewal Open on Tuesday, 27 August 2024 A more inspirational store! A guided path to enhance shopping experience!

The world's first IKEA Fans Shop and an updated Interactive Room Design to be launched.
It has been four years since IKEA Shibuya opened in November 2020 with the idea to make IKEA more accessible for the many people who live, work and interact in Shibuya. As a partner of “Life at Home”, IKEA Shibuya has renovated six floors and will reopen on Tuesday, 27 August 2024, to provide the many people with home furnishing, interior and lifestyle goods that make life at home more comfortable and sustainable at affordable prices, in a more accessible, fun and inspiring way.
[Key points of IKEA Shibuya renewal]
Inspired by Swedish culture and design, the City Shop will be more inspiring and colourful!
■Two large, exterior-facing monitors will be installed at the store entrance on In-okashira Street and will display IKEA's iconic products and seasonal videos.
■The area around the escalators on each floor are coloured pink (1st floor), blue (2nd floor)light green (3rd floor), yellow (4th floor), orange (5th floor), red (6th floor), and green (7th floor). The use of bright, vibrant colours as accents pro-vides a more enjoyable and exciting shopping experience. In addition to the vi-brant colours, a pattern reminiscent of Shibuya's skyscrapers is used throughout the store.
■The home furnishing sales area is divided into "Living Room & Dining Room" (3rd floor) and "Kitchen" (4th floor),"Office" (5th floor), "Bedroom and Bathroom" (6th floor), and the furniture, interior goods and lifestyle items primarily used in each area will now be exhibited and sold together, allowing visitors to see the total coordination.
■The 29 vignettes (displaying corners of a home) located on the first to sixth floors and eight room settings (displaying rooms within a home) on the third to sixth floors offer comfortable, sustainable life at home in the city centre. IKEA regularly conducts home visits and other activities to investigate the needs of each com-munity. Recognizing that limited space is an issue for life at home in urban areas, IKEA Shibuya's vignettes and room setting suggest ways to make effective use of spaceby adjusting layouts and sizes. Another feature of IKEA Shibuya is that it of-fers a wide range of room sets that reflect the needs of urban living, such as rooms for single people and low price rooms. Furthermore, each room setting has a persona assigned not simply to each household, but to reflect diversity of life at home. Each floor also has an area where new and seasonal products are displayed together. In addition, the seven vignettes on the first floor are linked to the colours of each floor mentioned above, and also serves as navigation to each floor.
■The store will continue to offer customers to experience Swedish food culture in central Tokyo through its food menu, such as meatballs and salmon. There is the Swedish Bistro on the first floor, Swedish Food Market on the second floor, and Swedish Restaurant on the seventh floor, offering Swedish food as well as sus-tainable food and seasonal menus (the first and second floors have been reno-vated).
Providing the unique IKEA experience in an omnichannel environment
■The store layout will enable customers to enjoy shopping by walking along a guided path, which is a feature of large IKEA stores. By following the arrows cus-tomers can discover more IKEA products, ideas and solutions for Life at Home.
■For the first time in a City Shop, IKEA Shibuya is introducing a "Take-home Furni-ture" area, where customers can pick up furniture all at once. This is based on the same concept as the "Self Serve" area from the large stores.
■Ater the renovation, approximately 2,700 items of furniture, lifestyle and interior goods will be on display for customer to touch and feel. Among the 2,700 items, approximately 1,700 items are available to take home on the same day.
■In an omnichannel environment, we will continue to provide a seamless shop-ping experience, regardless of whether you are in the physical store (IKEA Shibuya) or online (online store and IKEA app).
- IKEA's furniture, interior and household goods are developed in Sweden and incorporate democratic design (function, form, quality, sustainability, and low price). Customers can order the approximately 9,500 IKEA prod-uct sold at IKEA Japan at IKEA Shibuya, the IKEA online store, or the IKEA app for later delivery.
- Using the in-store pickup service (flat rate of 300 yen), you can pick up home and interior goods and selected furniture purchased through the IKEA app or IKEA online store at IKEA Shibuya.
- By using the IKEA app, which includes features such as "IKEA Scan & Pay" and " IKEA Kreativ", the shopping experience at IKEA Shibuya will become even more convenient.
A new initiative that is a first for IKEA globally and IKEA Japan
■A first for IKEA globally, "IKEA Fanshop" will be set on the first floor. This area will be developed to attract not only existing IKEA fans, but also those don't know IKEA very well. We will be showcasing the unique features of IKEA in a new way, such as displaying iconic products that represent democratic design in the same colour. The theme for the renewal is blue, and it will feature blue products.
■On the first floor, the latest experiential shopping tool "Interactive Room Design” will be available. This is an experiential installation that allows visitors to interact with50 rooms created by IKEA interior designers based on the needs of life at home in Japan on a curved LED screen. You can also purchase the product dis-played on the screen from the online store via QR code. "Interactive Room De-sign" has been introduced at IKEA Harajuku, IKEA Shinjuku, and some IKEA stores in other countries, and IKEA Shibuya will be the first in the world to introduce the latest version.
■IKEA Japan has developed a new experiential activity using Location Based AR, featuring a concept video that makes IKEA Shibuya look like the "home" of the featured IKEA alien called the AFTONSPARV soft toy, that has been attracting at-tention across social media. At the end of the video, you will be redirected to the IKEA online store, where you can purchase IKEA products that appear in the vid-eo. Using the location data from your smartphone, you can easily enjoy the AR video by simply scanning the QR code with your camera near IKEA Shibuya.
