IKEA Shibuya to Open on November 30 Swedish Bistro to offer tasty, Earth-friendly veggie hot dogs

IKEA Retail Japan, announced today that IKEA Shibuya, the company’s second downtown Tokyo store, will open on Monday, November 30 with thorough measures in place to guard against the spread of COVID-19.

CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer Helene von Reis said, “We are so excited to open our very first city shop in the heart of Shibuya! We could not wish for a more iconic area to continue our city expansion to meet the many Tokyoites. The shop will be a 7 floor mini IKEA experience where you can find 1800 products for direct take away and order the rest online.“

Eight room-sets will provide hints for a wide range of lifestyles and family structures, reflecting IKEA’s commitment to inspire customers with innovative ideas, especially at a time when people are spending more time than ever at home. IKEA Shibuya will also feature a smart-home experience area and a section for children’s furniture and toys.

“We continue our focus on plant based food and are proud to present the Swedish Bistro, First in the world to serve only veggie dogs based menu, in many delicious and creative ways,” added von Reis. “In the shop you will also find many home furnishing solutions and products focusing on how you can create a comfortable and sustainable home saving both money and the planet. All to support the IKEA goal of becoming climate neutral by 2030.”

Restaurants on the seventh floor of IKEA Shibuya will open in spring 2021.

Features of IKEA Shibuya

• IKEA’s first-ever Swedish Bistro specializing in veggie hot dogs

IKEA’s tasty, Earth-friendly veggie hot dogs will be featured on the Swedish Bistro’s 10-item menu.  Eight of the offerings will be exclusive to the Shibuya store, five will be plant-based and all ten will be named after Swedish cities. The STOCKHOLM veggie hot dog is a plant-based version of IKEA’s popular kebabs.

• First Swedish Food Market in a city store!

This first food market in an IKEA city store will sell an extensive range of tasty, sustainable Swedish foods, just like those sold in traditional IKEA stores. The selection will include plant balls, a reimagining of IKEA’s famous meatballs. Everyone is invited to experience IKEA’s healthy, eco-friendly food options.

• Items exclusive to IKEA Shibuya

KNORVA hats made from IKEA’s familiar FRAKTA shopping bags will be available exclusively at IKEA Shibuya. These highly convenient hats provide protection even in the rain and fold compactly when not in use. A must-have for IKEA fans.

IKEA Shibuya COVID-19 Measures

• Alcohol sanitizer at store entrance and at multiple locations within the store
• Social distancing throughout the store
• Entry by number (online registration) on opening day to reduce crowding
• Capacity restrictions as required
• Plastic curtains in customer-contact areas, such as checkout counters
• Co-workers (staff) may wear face masks/shields and physically distance or stand behind plastic curtains to talk with customers as needed

Online Reservation Site will secure the que management  
Starting 21:00 pm of Sunday November 29th, a day before the opening day Monday November 30, we will start accepting online reservation at the designated website (https://airwait.jp/WCSP/storeDetail/?storeId=KR00824219)for the ticket number for the visit on the 30th. Registered customers will be notified via email when to visit the shop. For while, this online reservation system will continue. (Customer can only reserve for one person (anyone older than first grader is counted as one person) at a time. The number is reserved in the order of registration. We will close the reservation when the capacity of the day visits is fulfilled.  

Depending on the evolving situation and in accordance with government guidelines, additional measures may be implemented to ensure the safety and peace of mind of IKEA customers and co-workers.
