How to get it

One of the most loved Swedish traditions is fika – socialising over coffee and cookies. With sweet treats in the KAFFEREP series, we want to share the tradition so more can enjoy memorable fika moments.

Seven is a magic number

From kafferep to fika – the Swedish tradition of gathering at home to socialise, drink coffee and eat cookies has a long history. The custom came about during the 19th century and meant that the host was expected to serve exactly seven types of cookies to their guests. Fewer were considered stingy and more was seen as over the top, while seven was the perfect balance. At IKEA, we love this way of enjoying a special moment with others, no matter how many cookies are served.
