Does the jobHazelI haven't had any big spills so can't say how well it would do at that but I got this because my partners medication makes him sweat buckets at night and I feel much more assured now the mattress will be protected vs the usual sheet style of protector. Very easy to wash, has a sort of towel like feel but I have two sheets over it and you can't even tell it's there then5
