Product finishing needs workMichaelEchoing the earlier review with regard to the assembly of the sides and their seamless fitting. I assembled two cubes, making every effort to get all the sides to line up correctly, so tht the front facing pieces would all appear smooth. One of the cubes lined up perfectly but the connections on the other cube are misaligned, so that the front is noticeably off. It looks a little sloppy. This seems to be an issue with the depth of the holes that the inserts slide into. Otherwise a nice looking product. You get what you pay for.
Take extra care assembling!Anonymous reviewerI think Ikea need to test the assembly of the Eket cube again as it feels like they have not done so robustly in the first place.
The video on the website makes it look very easy but in fact you will need to use a good deal of force to get the four sides to knit together and to align properly. Get it wrong and it's very difficult to dis assemble the cube without damaging it and without the recesses in the particleboard crumbling! I think a metal insert in the recess might make it easier. I bought 3 of these and only managed to assemble 1 with all sides flush. It's a shame as the finished product is quite a nice finish if you manage to get it right first time round. Had in mind to get a few more for a bigger project in a more prominent room in the house but have decided against that now.
Please do have a look at improving this Ikea as the Eket makes a nice, more delicate alternative to Kallax if only the assembly wasn't so hit and miss
