Tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger and more resistant to breaking than regular glass. In case it would break, it shatters into many granular pieces to reduce the risk of injury.

Low frame qualityIgorI've bought two shelves and both of them will need to go to trash. The frame itself is made of very soft material and it's very easy to break it when you install the plastic caps that tighten the bolts. I can compare to other ikea furniture because I've assembled tens of them recently with zero issues.1

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
