Do indoor plants need sunlight?

House plants do need sunlight, but they don’t all require the same amount. The environment each plant originates from generally gives you a good idea of how much sun they’ll need. For instance, plants that flourish in desert climates typically need a lot of direct sunlight. Plants that grow in dense forests, however, only need a few hours of partial sunlight.

If you’re looking for plants that don’t need any sunlight at all, we also have some artificial ones. From plastic plants and flowers that replicate the real thing to artificial hanging plants, our range of low maintenance plants are an easy way to add colour and texture to your home.

Do indoor plants improve air quality?

House plants can absorb gases and produce oxygen. However, to achieve any air purifying results with them, you would need to squeeze thousands into your home. Although you can’t rely on plants alone to better your air quality, they can benefit your health in other ways. Their refreshing fragrance and eye-catching colours can help relieve stress and improve your mood.

What are the best flowers and plants for homes?

Lots of plants can thrive in your home or outdoor space, so it’s really up to you what type of plant you go for. If you’re a gardening beginner or want something low maintenance, succulents are a good choice as they rarely need watering. A lack of direct sunlight in your home could call for a plant like the dragon tree. Just want something decorative? Consider climbing vines or a cactus. There are all sorts of indoor plants and flowers to choose from, so you’re not limited when it comes to colours, fragrances or levels of care required.

Another factor to consider is how safe a plant is around pets. For some pets, swallowing the leaves or flowers of certain house plants can make them extremely sick – so it’s worth checking that your plant of choice won’t harm any curious creatures.
