IKEA Cookie Policy

The aim of this Cookie Policy is to inform you on the use of cookies and similar data storage technologies such as web beacons (all referred to in the following as “cookies”) on our website at www.ikea.com/de/de. This Cookie Policy applies in addition to our Privacy Policy.

I. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored by the browser you are using on your device to contain certain information. The next time you visit our website using the same device, the information stored in the cookies will be sent back either to our website (“first-party cookie”) or another website controlling the cookie (“third-party cookie”). The information stored and retrieved allows the respective website to recognise that you have already accessed and visited the website on your device using this browser. We will use this information to design and display the website according to your preferences. The only thing identified on your device is the cookie. We will only ever store your personal data with your express consent or as absolutely necessary for you to use the service you have accessed.

II. Transmitting personal data to the USA

We will always ask for your consent before using cookies that are not strictly necessary to provide you with services from our website. Some of the companies that use these consent-based cookies process them in the USA.

The EU Commission passed an adequacy decision on an EU-US data protection framework according to GDPR Art. 45.1 and 45.3 on 10 July 2023. This has determined that the US ensures adequate protection standards comparable to EU data protection for personal data transmitted from the EU to US companies that have joined the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. This eliminates the need for additional data protection guarantees when transmitting data to US member companies.

The official Data Privacy Framework list includes all the US companies that have joined the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The EU Commission website provides details with answers to questions on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

These services are used on your consent according to GDPR Art. 6.1 (a). We will only transmit your personal data to the USA in these services within the confines of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework according to GDPR Art. 45.1 and 45.3.

III. Revocation of consent to the use of cookies

You can withdraw your consent to the use of cookies at any time with effect for the future unless these cookies are absolutely necessary for other purposes; see IV.1 for more details. You will also find a link to the cookie settings in the footer.

IV. Deleting all cookies

You can also deactivate cookies in your browser at any time. This will keep cookies from being stored on your device; however, you will be asked whether you agree to cookies each time you access our site. We would also like to point out that you might not be able to use all the features on our website if you deactivate all cookies.

V. Individual cookie types

There are various cookie types categorised depending on function and purpose:

V.1 Strictly necessary cookies
Strictly necessary cookies ensure website functionality. You will not be able to use our website as intended without these cookies. We are the only party using these cookies, which is why we call them first-party cookies. That means that all the information stored in these cookies will be sent back to our website.
Examples of how strictly necessary cookies are used include keeping you logged in when you switch pages on our website; you would otherwise need to re-enter your login data every time you click to a new page.
We are permitted to save and use cookies on our website without your consent. This also means that you will not be able to accept or reject strictly necessary cookies individually. However, you can still reject all cookies in your browser settings at any time. Remember that you might not be able to use all the features available on our website if you reject all cookies.
We use of strictly necessary cookies on the legal basis of GDPR Art. 6.1 (b) (performance of the contract) and GDPR Art. 6.1 (f) (balancing interests based on our overriding vested interest in providing our website and its services with full functionality).

V.2 Performance cookies
Performance cookies collect aggregated information on how our website is being used towards constantly improving the website’s appeal, content, and user experience. Amongst other things, these cookies help us recognise pages that are especially popular on our website as well as content that is especially attractive for users. Specifically, we record the number of hits on a page, the number of subpages called up, time spent on our website, order of pages visited, search terms that brought you to us, your country, region and, if applicable, the city the website is being accessed from, and the proportion of mobile devices that access our website. We also record mouse movements, clicks, and scrolling movements to understand which areas of our website are of particular interest to users. These cookies do not store any information that allows the user to be identified. The information collected is aggregated, making it impossible for us to draw any direct conclusions about you as an individual. We will only ever use this information to compile statistics and tailor our website content more specifically to the requirements of our users, improve user experience, and optimise our services.
We use these performance cookies according to GDPR Art. 6.1 (a) together with your consent. You can give your consent in the cookie settings and always revoke your consent with effect for the future without giving reasons.

V.3 Functional cookies
Our website uses functional cookies to save information already provided such as registered name, language selection or your location to give you an improved, more personal user experience based on that information. These cookies always collect and store information to prevent your user activities on our website from being tracked on other websites. We use these functional cookies according to GDPR Art. 6.1 (a) together with your consent. You can give your consent in the cookie settings and always revoke your consent with effect for the future without giving reasons.

V.4 Marketing cookies
Marketing cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies (collectively referred to as “marketing cookies”) are either first-party cookies from IKEA or third-party cookies from external advertising companies and/or suppliers. These marketing cookies are used for collecting information such as subpages, products that the customer has searched for, clicked on, or purchased, and special offers and advertisements on websites visited by users towards creating customer segments and target-group advertising to display on other websites and in social media. These cookies and web beacons are also used to limit the frequency of an advertisement towards measuring and improving the effectiveness of an advertising campaign. This information may be shared with third parties such as advertisers.
We use these marketing cookies and web beacons according to GDPR Art. 6.1 (a) together with your consent. You can give your consent in the cookie settings and always revoke your consent with effect for the future without giving reasons.
