Simple, elegant Scandinavian interior design

Known for its calming white and light wood tones, Scandinavian interior design is a simple and beloved style that is more about harmony than minimalism. The common thread in Scandinavian-style interiors is nature-inspired patterns and a palette of a few shades, so everything fits together beautifully.

Scandinavian interior with furniture − everything in its place

Storage solutions play a big role in Scandinavian interior design. Since a lot of warm outerwear is needed in winter, minimalist and thoughtfully designed Scandinavian storage solutions are real space wonders. All available hallway space is utilized efficiently by thoughtfully placing cabinets, narrow shoe storage solutions such as shelves and wooden benches, as well as mirrors and lighting.

Scandinavian interior design with small objects − neat and beautiful order

Personal arrangements of everyday and decorative objects are an essential part of Scandinavian interior design. You can combine narrow glasses and graphic candlesticks in the arrangement, for example, or soften the look with natural plants, such as beautiful reeds or grasses. Open shelves and display cabinets are a wonderful backdrop for arrangements, white ceramic jugs, mismatched plates and stacked serving trays. When the color palette is light, all the objects fit together beautifully without making the whole thing too thought-out.

Scandinavian interior design in the living room and all shades of gray

The color scheme of the living room decorated in the Scandinavian style is neutral and mainly uses different shades of white and light gray, both on the walls, painted wooden floor, curtains, rugs and sofa fabric. The cold tones are warmed up by interior items made of natural materials, light wooden furniture and natural beech, birch and ash surfaces. Thoughtful arrangements, small sculptures and large-leafed green plants bring interest and personality to the calming space.

A Scandinavian bedroom exudes softness

A Scandinavian-style bedroom is decorated with a clean-lined bed frame and minimalist, smooth bedding to create a calm look. Gray and white are the main colors, and potted plants refresh the overall look. A touch of cream and wood tones bring warmth to the space. Soft sheepskin rugs or plain rugs are usually placed next to the bed, which are lovely to step on first thing in the morning. A Scandinavian bedroom is a peaceful place to fall asleep in and a wonderful place to start the day.

Fresh Scandinavian interior design in the bathroom

The color palette of a bathroom decorated in the Scandinavian style is also simple and restrained. The background is usually white tiled walls and one or two accent colors. Wooden slatted rugs and waffle-woven towels and bathrobes add a touch of ruggedness to the restrained ensemble. Open shelves, where all care products are beautifully displayed and easily accessible, also fit the style. A large mirror, a simply stylish wall lamp and hanging plants complete the ensemble.

Angular kitchen decorated in Scandinavian style

The cornerstones of a Scandinavian-style kitchen are shades of white and grey, plywood, cork and various storage baskets. Open shelves can be used to store ceramics, cookbooks and kitchen utensils, and a serving trolley on wheels puts everything within easy reach. The graphic patterns go well with square wall tiles and wall-mounted kitchen utensil rails.
