Becoming a circular business

At IKEA we’re working to become a circular business and are finding new ways to make circularity more convenient and relevant for you. One way is by developing new products and services to enable you to maintain, repair and pass on your belongings when you no longer need them.

A circular business by 2030

We are transforming every aspect of what we do, from the way we source energy and materials to how we design our products, how and when we meet our customers, and how we run our operations.

Our circular targets & achievements:

  1. Designed for circularity: IKEA products are designed from the very beginning to be reused, repaired, refurbished and recycled. We aim to achieve an average circular fulfilment score of 90% across our entire product range, with at least half of our products reaching a 100% score.
  2. Decoupling growth from virgin materials: We are working towards absolute decoupling of virgin, non-renewable material use from IKEA business growth, increasing the share of recycled and renewable content in IKEA products to at least 90%.
  3. Circular services at scale: Circular services are designed and implemented in at least 80% of our markets, making it easier for people to reuse, repair, refurbish and recycle.

A zero waste mindset

At IKEA, we hate wasting resources and are always looking for ways to make more from less. This applies to raw materials, energy and space. And we also know that waste can be a valuable resource. After all, waste is no longer waste if it’s given a second life.
