Simplicity and a feeling of space
“Right now we strive for simplicity, and the tranquility and harmony that comes with it”, says IKEA interior designer Elin Stierna. “Here we combine soft patterns and textures to achieve just that. Furnishing with fewer things also adds an airy feel to the room.”
Graphic patterns, round shapes and brass
Graphic and simplistic patterns – blocks, dots, terrazzo tiles – are accented by round shapes, glass and brass notes. Elin continues: “Don’t be afraid to mix different patterns – traditional and modern – in both form and material. They tend to complement each other beautifully.”
Trends are good for inspiration. But dare to add your own twist. Experiment to find a combination that works for you – and have fun doing it.”

Let flowing textiles add volume and mood
Hanging fabric creates a poetic, airy mood. But it can also serve more practical functions. “Combining layers of sheer and thicker curtains lets you control a room’s light and temperature – effective and effectful”, Elin concludes.
We love to see our customers get creative with our products. Go for it! But please note that altering or modifying IKEA products so they can no longer be re-sold or used for their original purpose, means the IKEA commercial guarantees and your right to return the products will be lost.
