IKEA reveals how all New Zealanders can get their hands on products, with delivery and 29 Pick Up Points nationwide

From the moment its Sylvia Park store opens in late 2025, IKEA will make its full range of affordable, well-designed home furnishings available throughout Aotearoa with nationwide home delivery and a network of Pick-Up Points spread across the entire length of the country.
Today IKEA can announce its transport partners at launch are NZ Post and Mainfreight. Together they will ensure that every IKEA order, from the Billy bookcase through to napkins and tealights, reaches customers, no matter where they live in New Zealand.
Sharing the IKEA vision for a clean energy future, NZ Post and Mainfreight will deliver IKEA products across Auckland using electric vans and trucks, with the aim of achieving 100% zero emission delivery in the metro area – the first home furnishing retailer in New Zealand to set this ambition. Together, they are also working to expand zero emissions delivery into the wider delivery network across New Zealand.
Via a combination of home delivery and a network of 29 Pick Up Points, the iconic IKEA home furnishings will be accessible for all New Zealanders when it opens. Operated by Mainfreight, the Pick Up Points provide an economical way for customers to collect their orders. Each Pick Up Point has dedicated parking and drive-in lanes for quick collection and are situated in major centres including Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin as well as smaller regional towns such as Kaitaia, Greymouth, Invercargill.
IKEA New Zealand Fulfilment Manager, Jan Vanderstappen, said: “From the moment we decided to enter the market, we knew that to achieve our vision of creating a better life at home for the many people in Aotearoa, IKEA would have to be truly accessible across the country. Not just to those living in Auckland and close to our store. I am excited that today we can start to bring this vision to life, together with partners NZ Post and Mainfreight who share our bold ambitions and commitment to customer experience, but also sustainability, with zero emission delivery at the heart of our plan.
“We’re confident we will meet the expectations of our customers no matter where they live, or how they would like to shop with us. With this national parcel and truck network complementing the physical shopping experience at the Sylvia Park store, we are ensuring customers can access IKEA home furnishing solutions efficiently and affordably; whether that is taking away their products instantly from the store or via Click and Collect, receiving a delivery to the front door, or collecting an order at a near-by Pick Up Point.”
With expertise in fulfilment across the world, to best support the scale and breadth of its home furnishing range, IKEA separates its orders into truck and parcel flow. NZ Post will deliver smaller accessories and furnishings dispatched as parcels, with larger flat-packs and furniture transported on Mainfreight trucks. To support Mainfreight and NZ Post with charging their electric vans and trucks, IKEA has invested in fast-charging infrastructure, supplied, installed and maintained by Jump Charging, at the IKEA Sylvia Park store and the IKEA warehouse at Mangere.
Mainfreight New Zealand Country Manager, Carl George, said: “Mainfreight is proud to announce its partnership with IKEA for their highly anticipated launch in New Zealand.“We are especially excited to support IKEA in offering 100% zero emission home deliveries in Auckland using a fully electric local fleet, powered by renewables. Zero emission road freight not only serves to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also contributes to improved air quality, especially in urban environments.
“Zero emission deliveries for IKEA will be managed from Mainfreight’s new, Green Star 5 rated Mainfreight 2Home facility in Otahuhu, with solar and DC truck charging. We welcome the opportunity to support IKEA’s zero emission delivery ambitions, and we look forward to contributing to its ongoing development.”
NZ Post Chief Customer Officer, Bryan Dobson, said: “NZ Post is excited to support IKEA with their entry into New Zealand. We are more than ready to help ensure every New Zealander gets to enjoy the IKEA experience across the country. NZ Post has been investing to meet the growth in online shopping with exactly these types of relationships in mind. We are very proud to be supporting retailers in the New Zealand market and meeting demand for the growth in online shopping parcel delivery.
“We know New Zealanders are going to be super excited to see their well-known blue van pull up, with their iconic IKEA purchase safely stowed inside, delivered right into their hands.”
The establishment of a robust fulfilment network is a key milestone in the journey towards IKEA New Zealand’s imminent opening. The highly anticipated opening date will be revealed to Kiwis on 4 September 2025.
