"When designing the SILKESTRÄD series, I was inspired by traditional Chinese artisanal methods and materials. The metal tealight holder has a punched-out pattern that forms graceful shapes of light and darkness on the wall when lit – and brings shadow puppets to mind. For the scented candles, I chose typical Chinese scents and made ceramic containers with a surface resembling bamboo paper and leather. To me, this is contemporary design, with a traditional artisanal soul."
