Healthy, sustainable, affordable living for everyone
A key focus area in our sustainability strategy is inspiring and enabling people to move towards healthy and sustainable lifestyles, by making healthy and sustainable living a desirable choice that is affordable, attractive and accessible for as many people as possible through our products, services, food, marketing and communications.
Where we will focus:
- Shifting to plant-rich diets
- Supporting good-quality sleep
- Reducing food waste at home
- Enabling customers to take steps to save energy and water.
- Involving people in the circular economy to reuse, repair, refurbish and recycle
Our healthy & sustainable living agenda includes:
Developing affordable products and services that support healthy and resource-efficient living
Today, people with thin wallets have the hardest time affording solutions for healthy and sustainable living. IKEA has a real possibility to change this. Our scale and reach enable efficient production and distribution, and the ability to influence healthier and more sustainable behaviours. Based on research and our knowledge about life at home, we are developing affordable, complete home furnishing solutions that can improve people’s everyday health, wellbeing and ability to live within the boundaries of the planet.

Solutions for a healthy and sustainable home
We will develop and promote affordable, complete home furnishing solutions that enable customers to reduce their environmental impact related to energy, water and waste, and offer features that improve air and water quality and temperature control in the home.
Innovation is key in our water saving solutions
Around 10% of global fresh water is consumed in people’s homes, and that number is expected to increase across the world. We are constantly working on developing more ways to save water.

Enabling people to have better air at home
Indoor air pollution is a significant health challenge in many parts of the world. We want to play our role both by addressing the root causes and by developing affordable solutions that help improve indoor air at home, like the UPPÅTVIND air purifier.
Creating a delicious, healthy, sustainable, and affordable food offer
Given the significant impact of food choices on health, nature and climate, we are developing and promoting a delicious, healthy, sustainable and affordable food offer., contributing to the dietary shift towards more plants and less meat.
Inspiring healthier, more sustainable choices
Eating a plant-based diet is one of the most significant actions an individual can take to reduce their climate footprint. That is why we are focused on increasing the number and variety of plant-rich and plant-based food options - with the focus on taste, nutrition and affordability, as well as presenting and communicating them in a way that inspires customers to choose these products.

Promoting healthy and sustainable lifestyles
Creating sustainable lifestyles requires a change in social norms. We share our life-at-home knowledge and use scientific insights to inspire and enable people to adopt impactful behaviours connected to healthy and sustainable living.

Establishing and developing the IKEA Circular Customer Offer
Over the years, we’ve conducted and reported on numerous circular customer service offers in various markets. In FY22, using insights from these experiences, we created the IKEA Core Circular Customer Offer. With this, we’re developing ways to make it possible for customers to extend the lifespans of their products and maintain the value of the materials in their products for longer.
