By using recycled demim, we can save 27,000 litres of water and reduce our carbon footprint by 67% – per cover. A considerable reduction compared to industry standard manufacturing.
Extra covers to alternate with mean it's easy to give both your sofa and room a new look.
For us, worn-out clothes are a resource that is destined for greater things. Like using recycled denim, equivalent to 2 pairs of worn-out jeans, to make KLIPPAN sofa cover.
In Europe, about 500 million pairs of jeans are sold every year and the average European has 7 pairs of jeans. Less than 1% of these are recycled when they’re worn out. What massive potential!
The cover is easy to keep clean since it is removable and can be machine washed.
The cover is made of 40% recycled denim mixed with 60% new cotton from sustainable sources.
This cover is made of 100% cotton weave, a hardwearing natural material that’s comfortable to sit on.
To manufacture this sofa cover, we’ve used approximately 2,200 litres of water – from raw material to finished product, which means a reduction of 93% compared to conventional manufacturing.

Material
What is cotton?
Cotton is one of the world's most appreciated and used natural fibres. Textiles in cotton are soft, hardwearing and can be washed at high temperatures. They are also good at breathing and absorbing moisture – making them pleasant to wear close to the body. Today at IKEA we use more and more recycled cotton and strive to make sure that all the new cotton we use has been grown and produced with less and less amounts of pesticides, fertilisers and water.
