Getting the right height for hanging lights
It’s standard to suspend pendant lighting roughly 12-20 inches from an 8-ft ceiling. Have a higher ceiling? No problem. Add 3 inches in hanging length for each additional foot of ceiling height, adjusting for personal preference.
Shopping for kitchen pendant lights? While the length of your dining room table or kitchen island plays a role in how much lighting you need, consider proportion and preferred aesthetics as well. For longer tables, three small hanging lights instead of one larger light can create a more balanced look and brighter experience for the whole table.
There should be approximately 24 to 36 inches of space between the bottom of your pendant lamp shade or decorative bulb and the table or countertop below. Some pendant lights include a cord set with adjustable cord length so that the lamp hangs at the precise height you desire.
