IKEA returns

This is where we tell you everything you need to know about returning a purchased item to IKEA. Not 100% satisfied with an IKEA purchase? Our 365-day IKEA return policy gives you an easy way to return it for replacement or a refund on the purchase price.

How to return an item

We've simplified our IKEA return policy; there are just three things you need to remember if you need to return something.

  1. You have 365 days to return your purchase. The item can be new and packaged, opened or assembled; the main thing is that it needs to be unused and undamaged. Learn more about our return policy.
  2. Remember to bring your original proof of purchase (cash register receipt or invoice) on paper or in digital form.
  3. You can return the item to any IKEA store. It doesn't matter where you bought it. We’ll refund you for the full purchase price.

This return policy does not apply to cut and piece goods such as fabrics and kitchen worktops, or to green plants or items from our Zweite-Chance-Markt. Our return policy does not affect your statutory right of cancellation or statutory claims arising from defects.

Returning goods at an IKEA store

If you want to return something at an IKEA store, you’ll need to head for the exchange and returns area.

Our 365-day return policy is simple and usually hassle-free, especially when you prepare your return in advance online.

Just enter up to ten new and unused items that you wish to return. We’ll then send you a barcode by e-mail or text; this will speed up processing at the IKEA store. The barcode will remain valid for fourteen days at any IKEA store.

Appointment to return an item at an IKEA store

Not all IKEA stores provide this service at this moment.

Easily and quickly book a personal advance appointment to return your purchase, come to the IKEA store at the arranged time, check in – and get served immediately. No waiting.

Return by post

You’ll still be responsible for the parcel until we receive and register your return. Make sure you pack it securely and keep the post office receipt until we receive the parcel.

The parcel can measure up to 120x60x60 cm and weigh up to 30 kg.

Return by collection

Can't get to the IKEA store? You can order a truck to come and collect large and heavy items for a fee. The collection will take place at an agreed time; collection costs will be deducted from your refund.

If you want the item to be collected, just fill out the order form online and follow the instructions.

Collection will be charged at €75 for up to three tonnes.
