How does the IKEA kitchen measuring service work?

Our kitchen measurement service is a straightforward process that provides you with the precise basis we need for your kitchen plan. Here's a step-by-step guide on how it works—from initial viewing to finalizing a full plan for your design.

1. Plan and prepare.

Before you book the appointment, it is advisable to think about your future kitchen.
  • Get inspired: Start dreaming and researching by browsing our kitchen inspiration galleries or experimenting with our online kitchen planners.
  • Check availability: Confirm that the service is available by searching our online booking tool.
  • Make sure the room is "ready for measurement": The kitchen must be prepared for accurate measurements. Walls and ceilings must be finished (e.g. with plasterboard). All plumbing, gas and electricity connections must be in their final position. Ideally, the old kitchen should have already been removed, although this is not a mandatory requirement. The area must be clear and safe for the technician to work.

2. Book and organize your appointment

Once you're prepared, you can book the service.
  • Booking: You can book your appointment online using our online booking tool or speak directly to a member of staff in the kitchen department of an IKEA store.
  • Pay for the service: The price of the service is €99,-.
  • The service cost will be credited with the purchase of a kitchen or countertop.
  • Changes and cancellations: If your plans change, you can reschedule or cancel your appointment. Simply select the "Cancel" option in the email you received after paying for your appointment online. This must be done at least 48 hours in advance to be eligible for a refund.

3. Prepare for your appointment

To ensure that the visit is successful, please complete the following steps before the technician arrives:
  • Confirmation: You will be contacted by the metrologist at least 24 hours before your appointment to receive the final confirmation of time and address.
  • Prepare your requirements or constraints: Be prepared to point out any hidden elements that could affect the design (e.g., pipes laid in the wall) and inform the technician of any specifics such as parking or wayfinding details.

4. Attending the measurement

An experienced, professional technician will come to your home to take the measurement.
  • Arrival and duration: The technician will appear at the beginning of your agreed time slot. The visit can take up to 120 minutes, depending on the complexity of your kitchen.
  • What the technician does: The technician takes photos and captures all the necessary details, including room dimensions, position of windows, doors, obstructions, as well as all utilities (water, gas, electricity, and ventilation).
  • Your role: Please be on site to point out any special features and answer any questions the technician may have.
  • Confirmation of service: After completion, you will be asked to sign a form to confirm that the measurement service has been carried out to your satisfaction.

5. Access your measurements and start designing

After the measurement is complete, you are ready for the next step of your kitchen journey.
  • Get your measurements: Within 24 hours of the appointment, the exact measurements of your kitchen will be shared with you and IKEA.
